Patrick Whelan's career high 34 points helped lead the William Jewell College men's basketball team to an 80-74 overtime win over Missouri Western State University on Wednesday evening in Saint Joseph, Mo. Jewell moves to 3-0 overall on the season while Missouri Western falls to 1-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- 1st Half: At the 13:28 mark of the first half Jewell built a 17-9 lead and Whelan scored 14 of those 17.
- 1st Half: The Griffons then went on a run and took their first lead of the game with just over six minutes to play before halftime and would hold on for a five point lead at the break. 
- 2nd Half: Whelan's layup with just over 16 minutes left gave Jewell a lead that they would hold until Missouri Western tied the game with just over six minutes to play. 
- 2nd Half: In the final two mintues of regulation Jewell went on a mini 4-0 run and Byron Harp's layup tied the game at 71-71 with 44 seconds to play.  Missouri Western had one more shot to win it but Cole Clearman's jumper was no good and the game headed to overtime.
- Overtime: In the extra period the Cardinals scored the first five points and never looked back winning 80-74.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
	- Jewell managed just 3 bench points compared to 29 by Western.
- The Cardinals shot 45 percent from the field in the game but more importantly drained 11 three pointers at a 44 percent clip. 
- Despite a size advantage for Missouri Western the Cardinals out-rebounded the Griffons 36-32.
TURNING POINT
	- Keith Hayes' three pointer fueled a 5-0 run to start the overtime period for Jewell. 
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
	- Whelan finished with a career high 34 points while Hayes and Pharroh Gordon finished with 16 and 11 respectively.
- Gordon also pulled down a game high 13 rebounds in the contest. 
YOU SHOULD NOTE
	- The Cardinals 3-0 start is the first 3-0 start since 2010-11.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals will make their Mabee Center debut on Saturday, November 18 when they host Southwest Baptist University.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
