The William Jewell women's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season on Wednesday night at Missouri Western where they fell 67-63. The Cardinals trailed for just over 90 seconds throughout the contest but fell to 0-1 on the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1Q: The Cardinals opened with a 7-0 run, capped by a transition lay up from Rhyann Fisher to force two quick timeouts from the Griffons. Jewell maintained their advantage and led 13-8 after the first ten minutes.
  • 2Q: In the second frame, Missouri Western pulled within three at 21-18 before the Cardinals finished the quarter on a 13-4 run led by five points a piece from Adriana Rodriguez and Sydney Offield to take a 34-22 advantage into the locker room.
  • 3Q: The Griffons opened the third frame with a 19-11 run to tie the game at 43-43 with two minutes in the quarter. A free throw by Kayla Harrell pushed Jewell back in front 46-45 just before the end of the quarter.
  • 4Q:  A 5-0 spurt capped by a big three pointer from Harrell gave Jewell a 59-54 and seemed to swing the momentum. However, the Griffons responded with an 8-0 run to grab the lead at 62-59. A free throw from Offield brought Jewell back within one but the Cardinals were forced to foul and eventually fell 67-63.
