The William Jewell College men's basketball remained undefeated in 2017-18 with an 80-65 win over Baker University on Monday night in Liberty, Mo. The Cardinals improve to 5-0 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st Half: The Cards used an 11-0 run midway through the first half to fueled by three straight possessions with three point baskets.
- 1st Half: Jewell continued their hot shooting from beyond the arc draining a total of 8 three point shots in the first half and built a 42-27 lead at halftime. Jewell shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and 47 percent from beyond the arc.
- 2nd Half: The Cardinals came out and hit four three pointers in the first four minutes to build a 58-38 lead and were never threatened the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals outrebounded the Wildcats 39-32.
- Jewell held Baker to 27 percent shooting in the first half and 39 percent for the game.
- The Cards were 12-29 from beyond the arc.
TURNING POINT
- Leading 13-11 with just over 12 minutes to play in the first half Jewell went on an 11-0 run to take a 24-11 lead.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
- Keith Hayes led the Cardinals in scoring with 19.
- Patrick Whelan, Byron Harp and Eysan Wiley were the other Cardinals in double figures with 12, 11 and 10 respectively.
- Pharroh Gordon pulled down 10 boards for Jewell on the night.
YOU SHOULD NOTE
- The Cardinals 5-0 start is the first 5-0 start since 1987-88.
