Five Cardinals scored in double figures as the William Jewell men's basketball team defeated Lincoln University 92-76 today in the Drury University Classic in Springfield, Mo. Jewell remains undefeated on the year at 6-0 while Lincoln falls to 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st Half: Lincoln came out and built a six point lead in the first ten minutes of the game as Jewell struggled hitting from beyond the arc.
- 1st Half: Jewell closed the half on a 19-6 run to take a 44-39 lead at the half.
- 2nd Half: Jewell built their biggest lead of 14 with 10:22 to play and increased the lead to 17 four minutes later and never looked back.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals were outrebounded by the Blue Tigers 45-36.
- Lincoln held the Cardinals to 16 percent shooting from three-point land in the first half.
- The Cards forced 17 Lincoln turnovers in the game.
TURNING POINT
- Trailing by 8 midway through the first half the Cards went on a 19-6 run to lead at the half and never trailed from that point on.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
- Keith Hayes led all scores with 24.
- Byron Harp, Patrick Whelan, Eysan Wiley and Pharroh Gordon were the other Cardinals in double figures with 21, 15, 11 and 11 respectively.
- Wiley pulled down 13 rebounds for Jewell.
YOU SHOULD NOTE
- The Cardinals 6-0 start is the first 6-0 start since 1987-88. The 1987-88 team began the season 19-0.
