Five Cardinals scored in double figures to lead the William Jewell College men's basketball team to an 87-81 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over McKendree on Monday night. The game was a make up from January 14 when the game was postponed due to winter weather.
The win moves the Cardinals to 8-15 overall and 4-11 in the GLVC while the Bearcats fall to 9-14 overall and 3-12 in league play.
Jewell used a strong shooting performance in the first half draining 55 percent of their shots to lead 48-36 at the break.
The second half saw the Cardinals build their biggest lead of the night, 17, with 10:35 to play and was able to hang on for the win thanks in part to finshing 17-of-21 from the free throw line in the second half.
Senior
Jorge Perez-Laham led the Cards with 24 points, six assists and four steals on the night. Emil Ostafiicuic earned his third double double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Patrick Whelan (13),
Larry Fitzgerald (13) and
Easton Koch (11) were the other Cardinals to score in double figures.
The Cardinals will head to Kirksville, Mo., on Thursday to battle with Truman State at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs got the best of the Cardinals 95-80 back on December 3.
