The William Jewell College baseball team used a huge six run seventh inning to down Wayne State (Neb.) 7-4, today in Wayne, Neb.
The Cardinals trailed 1-0 heading to the seventh when the offense kicked in. In fact, the scoring almost never happened. After two quick outs,
Nate Pecota reached on an error by the Wayne State third baseman and Jewell took advantage from there. The inning was highlighted by two-run doubles from
Drew Standifer and
Dylan Christie.Â
The Cards tacked on another run for insurance in the ninth as Wayne State scored three in the bottom of the ninth to make things interesting.
Wyatt Schultz pitched 6 innings allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out two.Â
Canyon Mallory picked up the win in relief of Schultz and
Thomas Hennelly record his first save of the year in the ninth.
Standifer led the offense going 3-for-5 with two RBI's and a run scored while Christie also had two RBI's for Jewell.
The Cardinals, 10-11 overall, will travel to St. Louis to resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a four game set starting Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
