Sarah Lewis posted a career day in the circle and at the plate to lead the William Jewell softball team to a split at Quincy on Saturday afternoon falling 4-2 in the opener before taking the nightcap 1-0. The Cardinals now stand at 20-20 overall and 10-10 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
GAME ONE | Quincy 4 - Cardinals 2
In game one, the Cardinals and Hawks remained scoreless until Jewell broke the ice in the fifth inning.
Anna Biondo led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch, followed by
Lindsay Glynn reaching via the walk. Both runners came around to score on a two RBI double from
Madi Giles.
The Hawks responded by scoring four unanswered runs over the following two innings to take game one 4-2. The Cardinals totaled just five hits, including three doubles, led by Giles with two hits.
Biondo (13-6) took the loss in the circle, going six innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and five strikeouts.

Game two was a pitcher's dual with the Cardinals earning the win on the back of freshman
Sarah Lewis (6-6). In the circle, the right hander earned her fourth shutout of the season, allowing just three hits and striking out four over seven innings, while walking none.
Her counterpart Meghan Quirk was equally as good allowing just a single run, a solo shot off the bat of Lewis in the fourth inning.
Along with Lewis' home run, Giles recorded two hits, while Sydne Brashear and
Brooke Bernard each had one.

The Cardinals will have a quick turnaround as they step out of GLVC play for a non-conference game at Central Missouri on Monday afternoon at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Jewell will return to league action on Wednesday at Rockhurst before hosting Lewis and UW-Parkside on Saturday and Sunday.
