Jewell Baseball Rallies In Game Two To Earn Doubleheader Split With UMSL On Sunday

The William Jewell College baseball team earned a doubleheader split against Great Lakes Valley Conference foe University of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday.

The Tritons took the first game 8-7 but the Cardinals came back to win the second, 4-3.  Jewell improves to 16-2 overall and 6-2 in the GLVC while UMSL falls to 9-15 overall and 5-3 in league play. 

In game one, the Cards fell behind 3-1 after three innings before rallying for four runs in the fourth and tacked on a single run in the fifth to lead 6-3 heading to the bottom of the fifth. 

UMSL's Jacob Monti socked a three-run home run and the Tritons scored two other times to regain control of the game.  Jewell scored a run in the top of the seventh and had the tying run on second with one out before UMSL closed the game out.

Tanner Foerschler led the Cards going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. 

Canyon Mallory (0-2) took the loss going four innings giving up 10 hits and 7 runs. 

Jewell trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh in game two.  The Cards were able to score single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth to hold on for the 4-3 victory. 

Brad Jelinek led the charge going 2-for-4 with two RBI's and Dylan Christie was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Brendan Beatty (3-4), earned the win going 8.1 innings giving up 11 hits and three runs while striking out 8.  Garrison Fields recorded the final two outs of the game to pick up the save. 

The Cardinals will host Mid-America Nazarene University on Tuesday, April 4 at Talley Stadium.  First-pitch is set for 3:30 p.m
