Powered by a strong rushing attack and an early 20-0 lead, the University of Findlay took down William Jewell, 55-17, this afternoon at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo. The loss drops the Cardinals to 0-3 overall while Findlay improves 2-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1Q (8:23) The Oilers started the game on a 14 play drive that covered 67 yards in 6:37 when quarterback Rhys Gervais connected with Jason Moore, the first of his three touchdowns on the day. The point after attempt was no good.
- 2Q (14:20) Gervais found Moore again this time from 11 yards out to increase the lead to 13-0.
- 2Q (7:26) Michael Campbell rushed in from two yards out to put Findlay up 20-0.
- 2Q (4:44) The Cards got on the board with a 9 play drive that lasted only 2:36. Quarterback Brad Strauss rushed in from two yards out to cut the lead to 20-7.
- 2Q (1:35) The Oilers responded with a 9 play drive of their own in just over two minutes time. Daouda Sylla ran in from four yards out and the Oilers led 27-7.
- 2Q (00:04) Kicker Dalton Dye connected from 26 yards out to cut the lead 27-10 at halftime.
- 3Q (11:33) Gervais found Airion Kosak who hauled in a 43 yard touchdown pass and Findlay led 34-10.
- 3Q (10:11) On Jewell's next drive Strauss hit running back Trejuan Mask who took it to the end zone from 52 yards out and cut the lead to 34-17.
- 3Q (6:35) Gervais found Moore for his third touchdown of the game an 18 yard pass that increased the Oilers lead to 41-17.
- 3Q (1:31) Campbell scored his second touchdown of the game, a seven yard run that put Findlay up 48-17.
- 4Q (8:32) Adam Bertke rushed in from 24 yards that produced the winning 55-17 margin.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
- Strauss led the team in rushing with 42 yards and a touchdown. He was 23-40 for 261 yards and two interceptions.
- Mask led the Cards in receiving with five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.
- Isaac Dozier led the defense with 11 tackles.
TURNING POINT
- Findlay limited Jewell to two three and outs to start the game and led 20-0 before Jewell found the endzone.
YOU SHOULD NOTE
- The Oilers controlled the clock for most of the game keeping Jewell's offense on the sidelines in gaining 367 yards rushing. Findlay led the time of possession battle 40:52 to 19:08.

Jewell will open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play when they host McKendree University next Saturday, September 23. Kick-off is slated for 12:00 p.m.
