The William Jewell volleyball team used a dominant fifth set to claim their first Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season as they downed UW-Parkside on the road 3-2, by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 15-6. The Cardinals move to 3-7 on the year and 1-1 in GLVC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET ONE: With the score knotted at 20, Jewell used two kills and an ace, paired with two Ranger errors take the opener 25-21.
- SET TWO: The Cardinals got off to a rocky start in set two trailing 13-7 before an 8-1 run put them on top 15-14, capped by two kills a piece from Elizabeth Quinn and Maddie Wingert. Jewell used another 7-1 run at the end of the set to take it 25-17 and grab a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
- SET THREE: After the break, the Rangers responded by taking set three 25-23.
- SET FOUR: In set four, UWP grabbed a 20-17 lead on three consecutive Cardinal errors and used the momentum to take the set 25-21.
- SET FIVE: In the finale, Jewell was as dominant as they had been all day, opening a 7-2 lead and forcing a Ranger timeout. The Cardinals kept piling on however, and closed the match with four consecutive kills, 15-6.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- After hitting under .100 in three of the first four sets, Jewell maintained a .273 attack percentage in set five, while holding the Rangers to -.083 to grab the win.
