Box Score The William Jewell volleyball team took down non-conference opponent Southwest Baptist in straight sets on Tuesday night by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-21. With the win, Jewell moves to 4-7 on the year while maintaining their 1-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET ONE: In the opener, Jewell used a 11-1 run to change a 7-7 contest to an 18-8 lead. The Bearcats put together a small 5-0 run at the end of the set but a service error and kill from Madeline Johnson gave Jewell the 25-17 win.
- SET TWO: The Cardinals grabbed a late 22-15 lead on a 4-0 run, aided by three consecutive SBU errors. From there Jewell took the set 25-17 capped by a Kennedy Ruckh ace.
- SET THREE: The finale was a back-and-forth affair with neither team able to pull past a three-point lead until two Jewell kills and a Bearcat error put the Cards on top 24-19. A kill down the line from Maddie Wingert sealed the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals hit a season-best .263, including a .308 attack percentage in set two, committing just three errors on 26 attempts in the set.
- Jewell held SBU to a .088 attack percentage which is the third lowest mark of the season for an opponent.
