Quincy Drops Cardinals 3-1 in GLVC Action

The William Jewell volleyball team fell to Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Quincy 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Center by scores of 27-25, 24-26, 23-25, 18-25. The loss drops Jewell to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in GLVC play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SET ONE: After an early five point lead from Jewell, the Hawks battled to tie the set at 23-all. Although it would require extra points, the Cards took the opener 27-25 after scoring four of the next six points on kills from Paige Cunningham (2), Elizabeth Quinn, and Grace Miller
  • SET TWO: Set two was another battle as they two teams traded points until Quincy got two consecutive points to win 26-24 and tie the match 1-1. 
  • SET THREE: Jewell maintained a lead majority of the third set until the Hawks used a small 5-1 run to take a 20-19 advantage. Jewell responded by going back on top at 23-22 but three consecutive points from Quincy gave the Hawks a 25-23 win. 
  • SET FOUR: Quincy posted an early 11 point lead and went on to take the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.

  • The Hawks outhit Jewell .228 to .159 on the match, despite Jewell posting a .341 clip in the opening set. 
  • The Cardinals posted six service aces, led by two from Tolberd, compared to four from Quincy. 

YOU SHOULD NOTE
  • For the third consecutive game Castaneda set a new career high with 39 assists and 12 digs. 
  • Lacey Albers tied her career best with nine kills on a .304 attack percentage. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals travel to Drury University on Tuesday for a midweek GLVC match up with the Panthers beginning at 7:00 p.m.. Jewell will return home for a battle with Truman State to open Homecoming Weekend on the Hill.
