The William Jewell College football team hosted Missouri S&T this afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Miners of S&T scored 13 second half unanswered points to defeat the Cardinals 27-17 in Jewell's 2017 homecoming game. The Cardinals fall to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in GLVC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1Q (5:54) The Miners scored first with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Swart to Braxton Graham and led 7-0 after the extra point.
1Q (2:43) Jewell responded on the ensuing drive when quarterback
Brad Strauss found
Trejuan Mask from 15 yards out, followed by a successful PAT from
Dalton Dye to tie the game at
seven.
2Q (12:19) Jewell gained their first lead of 2017 when
Chance Nelson rushed in from 22-yards out and the Cardinals led 14-7.
2Q (8:52) Graham hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Swart and the Miners tied the game at 14.
2Q (00:59) Dye connected on a 29 yard field goal and the Cardinals earned their first halftime lead of 2017, 17-14.
3Q (4:10) Swart ran it in from one yard out the help the Miners reclaim the lead for good putting S&T up 21-17.
4Q (08:39) S&T kicker Ben Styron connected on a 30 yard field goal to put the Miners up by seven.
4Q (10:12) After a Miner interception Styron hit from 24 yards and gave S&T a 27-17 lead that ended up being the final score.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
Mask led the Cards in rushing with 74 yards on 14 carries.
Strauss dished out 202 yards passing and one touchdown while also rushing for 70 yards.
Mike McCuaig,
Justice Taylor and
Brock Geisz each contributed an interception on defense for Jewell.
Quayde Bauman led Jewell in tackles with 15 including a sack.
TURNING POINT
Trailing by seven with 8:30 to play, Strauss was picked up by S&T's Rod Chapman and the Miners kicked a field goal to take a 10 point lead.
YOU SHOULD NOTE
The Cardinals won the turnover battle (3-2) for the first time this season. Jewell also saw it's first halftime lead as they lead 17-14 at the break.

Jewell travels Quincy, Ill., on Saturday, October 7 to take on Quincy University. Kick-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
