The William Jewell men's basketball team used a 54 percent shooting clip from the floor to down Missouri S&T 88-67 on Thursday night in Rolla, Mo. With the win, the Cardinals move to 15-2 on the season and 5-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals fell behind early before going on a 7-3 run to take a 10-7 lead under five minutes into the game. The two teams traded leads over the next ten minutes before Jewell closed the half on a 13-5 run to hold a 40-37 advantage at the break.
- Missouri S&T opened the half by outscoring the Cardinals 16-13 to tie the game at 53-53. From there Jewell went on a 13-0 run to take their biggest lead of the night 66-53 with under 11 minutes to play. Jewell went on another 10-0 run led by five points from Easton Koch to push the lead to 23 and cruised to the 88-67 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals dominated the paint outscoring Missouri S&T 32-18.
- Jewell shot nearly 57 percent from the floor in the second half and 54 percent for the game, hitting 17-of-30 field goal attempts.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
- Pharroh Gordon posted his ninth double double of the season with a game high 21 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six assists.
- Keith Hayes added 20 points on of 5-of-10 from behind the arc and seven boards. Koch scored 14, just one shy of his career high, while adding four assists and two steals.
- Patrick Whelan chipped in 15 points.
