The William Jewell College men's basketball team welcomed in the number three ranked Bellarmine University Knights this afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Knights went on a late second half run to defeat Jewell 80-58.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half: The Knights came out on fire and built a 23-8 lead midway through the half shooting 53 percent from the field while holding the Cards to 30 percent.
1st Half: Jewell's offense picked up some and after Bellarmine built a 22 point lead Jewell cut the lead to 14 only to see the Knights take a 42-25 lead at halftime.
2nd Half: Jewell opened the half on a 23-4 run to cut the lead to two with 13:23 to play.
2nd Half: Bellarmine proved to be to much for the Cardinals as the Knights went on a run of their own to put the game away.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Cardinals who average over 10 three pointers made per game did hit 11 three pointers in the game.
Bellarmine was 16-19 from the free throw line while Jewell was only 3-of-7.
TURNING POINT
Leading by two with 13:23 to play the Knights held Jewell to only ten points the rest of the second half.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
Patrick Whelan led all scores with 26.
Keith Hayes was the only other Cardinal in double figures with 11.
