The William Jewell volleyball team earned their second win over Quincy University this season with a 3-1 victory on the road in Illinois. The win brings the Cardinals overall record to 9-19 and improves the Great Lakes Valley Conference mark to 3-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set One: With the set tied at 13 the Cardinals committed four errors to push Quincy in front 17-13. The Hawks expanded the lead to as many as six as the Cardinals could not recover, falling 25-19.
- Set Two: Set two was a close one from the get-go with neither team able to take more than two point lead until late. Tied at 15 each, the Cardinals got two kills and a block from RaechelMeisinger to help put Jewell on top by four, 20-16. The teams traded points the rest of the way but the Cardinal lead was enough, taking the set 25-20.
- Set Three: The Cardinals jumped out to a 15-10 advantage, capped by a service ace by Lauren Castaneda to force a Quincy timeout. Jewell built the lead to as many as seven as a PaitynHardisonkill ended the set, 25-18.
- Set Four: The finale was all Cardinals as Jewell opened a 16-8 lead, led by four kills from Jenna Rau in the early going. The Hawks cut the lead to six at 24-18 but an attack error gave Jewell the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals hit just .048 in the opening set loss, before posting .224 and .250 clips over the following two.
- Jewell collected 98 digs and held the Hawks to an attack percentage of just .100, their sixth lowest of the season.
