Cardinals Score Season High but Fall at McKendree

The William Jewell football team scored a season-best 31 points but dropped a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at McKendree on Saturday afternoon by a final of 47-31. The loss moves the Cardinals to 1-7 on the season and 1-5 in league play.  


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1Q (7:23) Will Schneider put Jewell on top early with a 13 yard run. (7-0, Jewell)
  • 1Q (6:13) The Bearcats wasted no time responding as quarterback Reece Metcalf found Matt Cole for a 48-yard touchdown reception to tie the game at seven. (7-7)
  • 2Q (11:01) – McKendree went up by six after a 8-yard run by Jace Franklin and a missed PAT. (13-7, MCK)
  • 2Q (00:30) The Bearcats score just before the half, driving 80 yards on eight plays resulting in a 18-yard touchdown pass to go up by 13. (20-7, MCK)
  • 2Q (00:00) Dalton Dye connected on his longest field goal of the season, at 48 yards as time expired in the opening half to pull Jewell within 10. (20-10, MCK)
  • 3Q (10:40) – McKendree opened the second half with a scoring drive but the kick was blocked resulting in just six points. (26-10, MCK)
  • 3Q (4:32) – The Bearcats grabbed their biggest lead of the day after a 75-yard touchdown pass to Steven Towns. (33-10, MCK)
  • 3Q (00:36) – Rye'll Dydell scored his first touchdown of the season and pulled the Cardinals within 16 with a three yard run to the end zone. (33-17, MCK)
  • 4Q (10:48)  - McKendree got seven points back with a two-yard run. (40-17, MCK)
  • 4Q (8:00) – Schneider put Jewell back on the board with a 27 yard run. (40-25, MCK)
  • 4Q (1:58) – The Bearcats continued to find the end zone, as a 10-yard run from Preston Thompson with under two minutes to play put McKendree on top by 22. (47-25, MCK)
  • 4Q (00:00) – Ethan Weilant hauled in a pass from Dallas Crittenden for a touchdown to bring the score to the final of 47-31. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals accumulated more total first downs than the Bearcats at 26-23. 
  • Jewell dominated the running game, with 337 yards compared to 183 by McKendree. 
  • The Cardinals controlled the ball for much of the game, holding possession for more than 38 minutes.
