The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest to Truman State, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Center. The Cardinals fall to 5-16 on the season and 2-8 in the GLVC with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set One: Truman State jumped out to a 11-4 lead and forced an early Jewell timeout. After the break, the Cardinals went on a 6-1 run, capped by two kills from Lily Johnson, to pull within 12-10. The Bulldogs responded with a 6-1 run of their own and opened a 20-14 advantage. An ace by Megan Rhule pulled Jewell within three at 21-18 but Truman closed the set with a 25-20 win.
- Set Two: The Cardinals and Bulldogs battled point-for-point for much of the second set until Truman went on a 6-0 run late to pull ahead 23-16. A kill by Jenna Rau ended the run but Truman scored two of the final the three points to win 25-18.
- Set Three: With the score tied 6-6, the Bulldogs went on a 15-6 run to open a 21-12 lead late in set three. The Cardinals got two kills from Johnson and Maddie Wingert, but could climb no closer, falling 25-15.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals hit .119 with 27 kills on 109 attempts while the Bulldogs posted a .248 attack percentage with 45 kills.
- Both teams collected three aces and missed a combined 11 serves.
