William Jewell linebacker Antonio Wabanimkee has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday. He joins Indianapolis' Al McKeller (Offensive) and Truman State's Lawrence Woods as the top players in the league during week 6. 

Wabanimkee helped lead the Cardinals to the first win of the season with a 14-10 victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday. The junior posted two sacks after the Cardinals rallied to retake the lead in the fourth quarter, for a total of 16 yards lost. In addition, he led the team with nine tackles, including eight solo. 

This is the first weekly honor of Wabanimkee's career and he joins Donte Colum (September 17) as the second Cardinal to receive the Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
