Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jewell Downs Purdue Northwest for First Win

The William Jewell men's basketball team secured its first win of the season with a 99-83 win over Purdue Northwest to move to 1-3. The Cardinal offense came out of the gates ready to go and it resulted in the biggest offensive output for Jewell this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • First Half: The fast paced offense from the Cardinals kept continuous pressure on the Purdue Northwest defense all night. A jumper from EysanWiley pushed the Cardinals ahead by eight points early in the first period. It was Jackson Golightlydoing it all when he made a big-time block on the defensive end and then finished it off with a layup on the offensive side. Three-point buckets from Mason Alexander and Keith Hayes gave Jewell a 14 point lead before a Nick Bradley layup over a defender gave Jewell its biggest lead of 23 in the half.
  • Second Half: After a three-minute cold streak, Wiley got things going for the Cardinals again with a jumper in the paint. Bradley followed up by finding some space from a Pride defender and capitalized with a three-pointer from the top of the key while jump shots from Minnifield, Harp, and Hayes kept Jewell in control of the game. An alley-oop connection from Hayes to Wiley finished off a successful offensive performance from Jewell.
