Arkansas Tech used a big second half to down the William Jewell men's basketball team by a score of 94-80 on Saturday afternoon in Warrensburg, Missouri. The Cardinals drop to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st Half: The Cardinals jumped out to an early 12 point lead following a jumper from Keith Hayes, less than seven minutes into the contest. The Wonder Boys cut into the Jewell advantage but the Cards held on to a lead for much of the opening half until a jumper from RJ Glasper tied the game at 40. Arkansas Tech took a quick lead with under a minute to play but a layup by Eysan Wiley with just four seconds on the clock knotted the score at the half.
- 2nd Half: Nick Bradley hit a three just over a minute into the second half to put Jewell on top but from there Arkansas Tech took control of the contest. The Wonder Boys outscored Jewell 41-18 over the next 13 minutes to take a commanding 83-63 lead. Two free throws by Keith Hayes cut the lead to 11 late but Arkansas Tech connected on 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to win by a 14-point margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals committed 11 turnovers which led to 19 Arkansas Tech points.
- Both teams were solid in the paint with Jewell outscoring Tech by just two, 28-26.
- Jewell shot 39 percent from the floor and just 30 percent from behind the three point line on the night, compared to 46 percent for the Wonder Boys.
