Late Rally Falls Short in 78-75 Loss to Missouri Western

Missouri Western pushed past the William Jewell men's basketball team with a late run in the second half, 78-75 on Monday evening in Liberty, Missouri. With the loss the Cardinals move to 2-6 on the season. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1stHalf: The Griffons jumped to an early nine-point lead in the contest. Jewell responded with fast break buckets from Byron Harp and Nick Bradley to bring it back to a three-point game. A three pointer from Mason Alexander edged the Cardinals ahead to give Jewell its first lead in the game. It was a back-and-fourth offensive game and jumpers from both Keith Hayes in Eysan Wiley gave the Cardinals the one point advantage heading into the locker room at halftime, 34-33. 
  • 2ndHalf: A Mason Alexander three point shot from well beyond the arc moved Jewell's lead to four points early in the second half. There were multiple lead changes throughout the period as both teams battled for momentum. With just under five minutes to play, the deep ball from Missouri Western began to fall and earned the Griffons a seven-point advantage. The Cardinals were able to stay within striking distance by connecting from the charity stripe. A late run from Missouri Western helped the road team pull off the victory. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Both teams were able to crash the offensive boards and create points off of them. Jewell recorded 13 offensive boards while Missouri Western recorded 12. 
  • There were 19 lead changes in the contest
  • The Griffins earned 18 points off of turnovers, while Jewell only earned 13.
  • The Cardinal offense was able to get 12 points in transition compared Missouri Westerns' eight.
