The William Jewell men's basketball dropped the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, 97-81, on Thursday evening at Quincy University. The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st Half: Jewell got off to a hot start in the the conference opener, jumping out to an 8-0 lead as Eysan Wiley got the scoring started followed by consecutive threes from Byron Harp and Jackson Golightly. The Hawks did not go quietly, going on a 15-5 run to take a two point lead midway through the first half. The Cardinals matched Quincy point for point until late the opening period when the Hawks hit four three-point shots and turned a two-point lead into an eight point halftime advantage.
- 2nd Half: The Hawks jumped out on top in the second half, with back-to-back buckets to push their lead to 12 and force a Larry Holley timeout. Mason Alexander's three with 18:21 to play pulled Jewell within seven but the Cardinals could get no closer, falling 97-81.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Hawks shot a blistering 53.6 percent from the floor and 40 percent from behind the three point line while Jewell shot just 36.2 and 32.1 percent respectively.
