Cardinals Earn Fourth Consecutive Win with 123-70 Victory Over Ottawa

The single game record for total points scored in the NCAA era last just one game before being tied as the William Jewell men's basketball team downed Ottawa 123-70 on Monday evening in the MabeeCenter. With their fourth win in a row, the Cardinals move to 6-8 on the season at the end of non-conference play. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1st Half: Jewell jumped out to a 10 point lead early but the Braves quickly responded and pulled with four with 12 minutes remaining in the opening period. The Cardinals outscored Ottawa 27-20 over the remainder of the half as a three from Mason Alexander with four seconds on the clock gave Jewell a 58-42 lead at the break. 
  • 2nd Half: The Cardinals went on a three-point tear in the second half as Alexander, Pharroh Gordon, Keith Hayes, Byron Harp, and Jackson Golightly combined for seven threes over less than five minutes of play to push the lead from 29 to 41 with under 11:30 to go. Caleb Houghton and Garrett Skipworthgot in the on the three-point parade, combining for three down the stretch and expanding the lead to as many as 55.

  • The Cardinals shot a season-best 54 percent from the floor including 46 percent from behind the arc, tying their season-high with 18 three point field goals. 
  • The Cardinals owned the paint, outscoring the Braves 44-34 and winning the rebounding battle, 49-48.
