Balanced Attack Leads Cardinals Big Win Over Kansas Christian

The William Jewell women's basketball jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter and never looked back, topping Kansas Christian 80-32 on Saturday afternoon in Mabee Center. The win moves the Cardinals to 4-4 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1st Quarter: The Cardinals got things going quickly, leading 14 just over half way through the opening quarter. Codee Myers hit her second three of the period with three seconds to got to give Jewell a 22-point advantage after 10 minutes.  
  • 2nd Quarter: The Falcons cut the lead to 17 with 6:24 to play in the half but the Cardinals outscored KCC 10-2 the rest of the quarter and a layup by Antoinette Mussorici just before the buzzer put Jewell on top 40-15 at the break. 
  • 3rd Quarter: The offensive output continued into the second half as Jewell expanded their lead to as many as 30 after a layup from Kalli Murphy with just under two minutes left in the period. 
  • 4th Quarter: Jewell continue to grow their lead in the final 10 minutes as Kelly Hendershot got in on the action with a layup after a steal from Myers. Natalie Denzer and Macyn Wilbers each grabbed buckets to end the game and push Jewell to the 48-point win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals shot 44 percent from the floor on the day while holding Kansas Christian to just 25.5 percent. 
  • Jewell forced 28 turnovers which led to 30 points. 
  • The Cardinal bench outscored the Falcons 57-5 on the day.

YOU SHOULD NOTE
  • Every player who appeared in the game for the Cardinals scored at least two points. 
  • After being sidelined with injury for the past 21 months, redshirt freshman Denzer appeared in her first career game scoring two points and adding three assists and three rebounds.

Jewell wraps up the first half of the home schedule on Monday as they host Avila at 5:30 p.m.
