Cardinals Fall Late to No. 15 Southern Indiana

The William Jewell women's basketball team gave No. 15 Southern Indiana all they could handle for three quarter but ultimately fell 67-54 on Thursday night in the Mabee Center. The Cardinals fall to 11-11 overall and 8-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1Q: The Cardinals started strong against the top team in the GLVC, trailing just 20-18 after the first ten minutes of play after a three pointer from Katie Finn
  • 2Q: Another three by Finn at the 6:43 mark of the second quarter tied the game at 23-23. The Eagles closed the half on a 14-2 run to hold a 37-25 lead at the break. 
  • 3Q: Jewell owned the third quarter, outscoring USI 19-13, led by three 3-point field goals from Kaiti Butaud, to pull within six at 50-44. 
  • 4Q: USI opened the final period on an 11-5 run to push their lead back to double-digits and finished with the 67-54 win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals shot just 36.2 percent from the floor while the Eagles connected on 41 percent of their shots.
  • Both teams struggled from behind the arc shooting 27 and 29 percent respectively.
     
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
  • Butaud led the Cardinals with a career high 15 points on 5-of-11 from behind the arc. 
  • Finn added 13 points, to go along with two assists and three steals. 
  • Lindsey McCoy tied her career high with three blocks. 

YOU SHOULD NOTE
  • Jewell remains in the sixth position in the GLVC point rating system heading into the final three regular season games. The point rating system will determine the eight seeds for the 2018 GLVC postseason tournament.
