Cardinals Fall on the Road at Truman State

A fourth quarter rally was not enough on Thursday night as the William Jewell women's basketball team dropped a 61-56 decision at Truman State. The Cardinals fall to 12-12 overall and 9-8 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1Q: The Cardinals held a slim lead for much of the first period before a layup from Sloane Totta with seven seconds remaining gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the night at 17-15. Rhyann Fisher and Katie Finn paced Jewell in the opening ten minutes accounting for ten of the Cards 15 points.
  • 2Q: A three from Hayden Butler with just over two minutes to play in the half pulled Jewell within one but the Bulldogs closed the half with back-to-back threes of their own to hold a 32-25 lead at the break.
  • 3Q: Truman State expanded their lead to as many as 12 in the third quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 13-8.
  • 4Q: Jewell owned the fourth frame scoring 23 points led by five a piece from Butler and Kayla Harrell and eventually tying the game at 56 on a lay up by Fisher with 48 seconds to play. A three by the Bulldogs with under 30 seconds sunk the Cards as they were forced to foul and fell by five 61-56.
