The William Jewell baseball team swept a double header with McKendree to win two of the three games in the weekend series. With the wins the Cardinals move to 6-7 overall while McKendree falls to 3-11.
GAME 1
Final: 4-1, Win
HOW IT HAPPENED
- B5: Chase Redick led off the fifth frame with a double and came around to score on a single by Brendan Carney combined with a McKendree error. (1-0, Jewell)
- B7: Redick again led off the inning with extra bases, this time a triple, before scoring on a sac fly from Tyler Murphy. Ben Pautler singled through the left side to score Carney and Chase Fiddler and push the lead to four. (4-0, Jewell)
- T9: McKendree got on the board with a solo home run by Andrew Adyt in the top of the ninth. (4-1, Jewell)
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher:
Brendan Beatty (2-1) cruised through 7.1 innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out four.
Losing Pitcher: Levi Brening (0-1) took the loss after giving up one earned run on four hits and two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- B1: With one out in the first, Pautler singled, swiped third base, and scored on an RBI ground from Trent Bollman to give the Cardinals the early lead. (1-0, Jewell)
- B2: Jewell pushed the advantage to three as Nate Pecota reached base on a fielder's choice to score Carney, coupled with an error which allowed Austin Kline to cross the plate. (3-0, Jewell)
- T4: McKendree tied the game with three runs on two hits in the fourth inning. (3-3)
- B4: Jewell went back on top as Kline scored on a RBI double down the left field line off the bat of Robbie Colburn. (4-3, Jewell)
- T6: The see-saw battle continued in the sixth as the Bearcats took their first lead, scoring two runs on one hit and a Cardinal error. (5-3, MCK)
- B7: Pautler sparked the start of a big seventh inning with a leadoff triple. The Bearcats intentionally walked Bollman but the final pitch got away from the McKendree catcher allowing Pautler to cross the plate. Tyler Carpenter then stepped to the dish sending a double to left center scoring Bollman followed by Kline reaching via the walk. Colburn scored both runners with his second RBI double of the game down the left field line, and came around to score on a single from Carney. (9-5, Jewell)

Winning Pitcher:
Reed Pegram (1-0) worked 5.1 innings in relief, allowing three earned runs on three hits while striking out a season-best six.
Losing Pitcher : Logan Zachry (0-1) appeared in just two-thirds of an inning allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks.
