Cardinals Pound Out 19 Hits in Win Over Minnesota-Duluth

The William Jewell baseball team downed Minnesota-Duluth 12-8 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon in Emporia, Kansas. The Cardinals move to 7-8 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 4-7. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: The Cardinals jumped on top early with three runs just four batters into the game. Ben Pautler was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Christian Chalabi to give the Cards an early advantage. Chalabi came around to score on a two run home run by Chase Redick, his first as a Cardinal, to extend the lead to three. (3-0, Jewell)
  • T2: Jewell added to their lead as Tyler Murphy walked and scored on a double from Chase Averitt. Chalabi followed with a two-RBI double of his own made is a six run Cardinal lead. (6-0, Jewell)
  • B2: The Bulldogs posted a big second inning to tie the game with six runs on three hits and took advantage of two Cardinal errors. (6-6)
  • T3: The Cardinals got a run back as Luke Viestenz singled to lead off the frame and scored on a single off the bat of Pautler. (7-6, Jewell)
  • B4: UMD tied the game once again with a run on a two out RBI double. (7-7)
  • T5: Chalabi stayed hot in the fifth inning, putting Jewell back on top with his second RBI double of the day, scoring Brendan Carney who singled. (8-7, Jewell)
  • T6: The Cardinals extended the lead back to two runs with an RBI single by Tyler Murphy to score Pautler. (9-7, Jewell)
  • B6: The Bulldogs got a solo home run from Tyler Midas pulled UMD within a run. (9-8, Jewell)
  • T8: Viestenz walked and scored on a Carney single up the middle to push the Cardinal lead back to two. (10-8, Jewell)
  • T9: Jewell added some insurance runs in the final frame as Austin Kline sent a two RBI up the middle to score Averitt and Chalabi. (12-8, Jewell)

PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Jace Burdette (1-1) earned his first win as a Cardinal, allowing just one earned run on one hit in 3.1 innings of work. 
Losing Pitcher: Kole Zuidmulder (0-1) took the loss, giving up two earned runs on three hits over nearly two innings.
