Offense Continues to Roll as Cards Top Fort Hays

The William Jewell baseball team totaled 15 hits and rolled to an 11-1 win over Fort Hays State on Wednesday afternoon at Talley Stadium. With the win, the Cardinals move to 8-8 on the season while the Tigers fell to 9-17. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B1: Ben Pautler got things off to a good start for the Cardinals reaching base and advancing to second on a wild pitch before scoring on an RBI single by Christian Chalabi. Nate Pecota and Luke Viestenz posted back-to-back RBI singles to give Jewell an early three-run lead. (3-0, Jewell)
  • B3: Chalabi led off the third with a single through the left side and scored on a sac fly off the bat of Tyler Carpenter to extend the lead to four. (4-0, Jewell)
  • T4: The Tigers got on the board with an RBI triple by Jordan Wilkerson. (4-1, Jewell)
  • B5: Chalabi and Chase Redick posted back-to-back doubles followed by a sac fly from Pecota gave the Cardinals their biggest lead of the day at five runs. (6-1, Jewell)
  • B8: With two runners in scoring position, Brendan Carney dropped a single into right field to score Pecota before crossing the plate himself on a passed ball. Trent Bollman sent a pinch hit RBI single to left field and came around to score on a Redik triple to right center to end the game early. (11-1, Jewell)

PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Wyatt Schulz (1-0) earned his first win of the season tossing 5.1 innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out a career high seven batters. 
Losing Pitcher: Zach Rothert (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up six earned runs on nine hits.
