The William Jewell baseball team split a double header with Truman State on Saturday afternoon to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Talley Stadium. The Cards took the opener 11-3 before dropping the nightcap 2-0 to move to 9-9 on the season.
GAME 1
Final: 11-3, Win
HOW IT HAPPENED
- T1: Truman jumped on top early with a run in the top of the first on an RBI single from Brendan Trimble. (1-0, Truman)
- B2: The Cardinals responded with a five spot in the bottom of the frame as Chase Redick, Trent Bollman, Luke Viestenz, and Robbie Colburn all posted RBI. (5-1, Jewell)
- B5: Jewell added two runs on two hits in the sixth as Christian Chalabi and Bollman each singled while Redick also scored. (7-1, Jewell)
- T6: The Bulldogs got a run back with two hits in the top of the sixth. (7-2, Jewell)
- B8: The Cardinals tacked on four more runs in the eighth, taking advantage of two walks and a two hit by pitch. Chase Fiddler scored on a wild pitch, followed by a bases-clearing double to right field off the bat of Redick to push the lead to nine. (11-2, Jewell)
- T9: Truman added a run in the final inning before Joey Leondike got back-to-back strikeouts to seal the victory. (11-3, Jewell)

Winning Pitcher:
Brendan Beatty (3-1) earned his team leading third win of the season, striking out seven batters and allowing just six hits.
Losing Pitcher: Bryan Clark (2-3) took the loss, giving up seven earned on nine hits.

- T7: After six innings of a pitchers duel, the Bulldogs broke through with two runs on one hit and three Jewell errors in the seventh inning. (2-0, Truman)

Winning Pitcher: Kent Frantz (2-3) earned the complete game shutout win after giving up just four hits and striking out six.
Losing Pitcher: Kylan Easley (0-2) suffered the loss despite allowing just one hit in 2.1 innings of work.
