The William Jewell College women's tennis team was upended 8-1 by Rockhurst University in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Clayview Country Club.

Morgan Holopirek and
Julia Yamate came up with a dominating 8-1 victory at No.2 doubles for Jewell that put the Cards up 1-0. Rockhurst got on the board with an 8-5 win at No.3 doubles over juniors
Whitney Holloman and
Hannah Waine. The Hawks pushed their lead to 2-1 when they edged senior
Claire Mackay and junior
Becca Richison 9-8 at No.1 doubles.
In singles play, Rockhurst swept all six singles matches but the Cardinals made it interesting. Mackay, Holloman and Waine all lost in three sets after winning their opening sets.
What's Next
The Cardinals travel to Baldwin City, Kan., on Wednesday, March 28 to take on Baker University. First-serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
