Cardinals Swept at Illinois Springfield

The William Jewell baseball team dropped the third and final game of the series with Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon, 13-3. The Cardinals fall to 3-6 with the loss while the Prairie Stars improve to 7-3. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B1: The Prairie Stars struck first scoring two runs on two hits and an error in the first frame. (2-0, UIS)
  • T2: Jewell got a run back in the second inning as Chase Redick singled and came around to score on an error. (2-1, UIS)
  • B3: UIS pushed the lead back to two runs, scoring on a sac fly in the third. (3-1, UIS)
  • B4: The Prairie Stars extended the lead in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on three hits. (5-1, UIS)
  • T5: The Cardinals got back within three as Redick drew a bases loaded walk to force in Brendan Carney. (5-2, UIS)
  • B6: UIS got a big sixth inning, scoring five runs on six hits, including two home runs. (10-2, UIS)
  • B8: The Stars tacked on three more runs on six hits in the eighth. (13-2, UIS)
  • T9: Jewell added a final run in the ninth inning as Chase Fiddler scored on a single from Tyler Carpenter. (13-3 ,UIS)


PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Andrew Dean (2-0) worked 5.2 innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out seven. 
Losing Pitcher: Brendan Beatty (1-1) struck out six batters and allowed five earned run over 5.1 innings.
