The William Jewell baseball team dropped the opener of a three-game series with McKendree 8-1 on Friday afternoon at Talley Stadium. The loss drops Jewell to 4-7 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- T1: McKendree got back-to-back doubles in the top of the first to take early lead. (1-0, MCK)
- T3: The Bearcats broke the game open in the third, scoring five runs on five hits and an error. (6-0, MCK)
- T4: A leadoff triple followed by a double pushed the McKendree lead to seven. (7-0, MCK)
- T6: The Cards committed two errors in the sixth leading to an unearned run for the Bearcats. (8-0, MCK)
- B6: Trent Bollman broke up McKendree's no-hit bid with an RBI single to left field scoring Tyler Carpenter who walked. (8-1, MCK)
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Nick Yung (1-3) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and allowed just one hit and one run.
Losing Pitcher:
Tanner Lucas (0-1) allowed five earned runs on eight hits with a strikeout.
Save: Brian Christianson (1) gave up just one hit over three innings.
