The William Jewell baseball team moved to 17-14 on the season with a win over Saint Mary, 6-4, on Tuesday afternoon at Talley Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- B1: Ben Pautler led off the bottom of the opening inning with a double and scored on an RBI ground out by Chase Redick. (1-0, Jewell)
- T3: The Spires tied the game at one as Keishon Brown tripled and scored on a passed ball. (1-1)
- B3: Jewell went back on top quickly with an unearned run as Christian Chalabi sent a single to center scoring Brendan Carney. (2-1, Jewell)
- B5: The Cardinals added three runs in the fifth as Pautler walked and scored on a double down the left field line by Chalabi followed by a two-run home run off the bat of Redick. (5-1, Jewell)
- T6: Saint Mary scored one run on two hits in the sixth as the first three batters reached base before three consecutive strikeouts from Cardinal pitching. (5-2, Jewell)
- B6: Jewell added a run in the bottom of the frame as Brendan Carney reached base on a double down the right field line before scoring on a wild pitch. (6-2, Jewell)
- T7: The Spires took advantage of a Cardinal error, scoring an unearned run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh. (6-3, Jewell)
- T9: An RBI single in the top of the ninth made it a two run game but a strikeout gave Jewell the win. (6-4, Jewell)

Wyatt Schulz (2-0) earned the win working 4.1 innings and allowing just a single unearned run while striking out three.
Losing Pitcher: Zach Novis took the loss, giving one earned on three hits and a walk.
