The William Jewell baseball team dropped a pair of games at Rockhurst University on Friday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo. With the losses, the Cardinals fall to 17-16 overall and 6-8 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
GAME 1
Final: 13-8, Loss
HOW IT HAPPENED
- T2: Chase Redick gave the Cardinals an early lead with a solo home run to center field for his fourth long ball of the season. (1-0, Jewell)
- B2: The Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the second with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and an RBI single. (2-1, RU)
- T3: Jewell tied the game in the following inning, with another RBI off the bat of Redick, this time a double to right center scoring Christian Chalabi. (2-2)
- B3: Rockhurst broke things open with four runs on five hits and Jewell error in the third to take a four-run lead. (6-2, RU)
- T4: Robbie Colburn grounded out to short, scoring Trent Bollman to get a run back for the Cards in the fourth. (6-3, RU)
- B4: The Hawks tacked on a run on a solo home run to right field by Alex Van Pelt. (7-3, RU)
- T5: The Cardinals made things interesting in the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits. Ben Pautler led off the frame with a triple down the right field line and scored on a single by Nate Pecota. Chalabi walked to put two runners on for Redick who again came through with a double to left center to pull Jewell within one. (7-6, RU)
- B6: Rockhurst got seven hits and five runs, including a two-run home run, in the sixth inning to push their lead to six. (12-6, RU)
- T8: A bases loaded walk to Pautler followed by an RBI single from Pecota pulled Jewell within four in the top of the eighth. (12-8, RU)
- B8: The Hawks responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to bring the score to the final of 13-8.
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: PJ Seufert (2-3) earned the win, throwing four innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on four hits.
Losing Pitcher:
Brendan Beatty (5-2) suffered just his second loss of the year, allowing eight earned runs on 13 hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- T1: The Cardinals jumped on top early with five runs on four hits in the first inning. With two runners on Chalabi singled to left allowing Pautler to score, followed by an RBI ground out by Bollman. Chalabi crossed the plate on a Colburn single before Nick Gavin sent a double to right center to push the Jewell lead to five. (5-0, Jewell)
- B1: Rockhurst got a three run home run from Van Pelt, his second of the day, to pull within two. (5-3, Jewell)
- T2: Pautler led off the top of the second with a double and scored on a sac fly off the bat of Chalabi to push the advantage to three. (6-3, Jewell)
- T3: The Cardinals opened up a six run lead in the third as back-to-back singles by Pautler and Brendan Carney put two on for Pecota, who blasted his second home run of the year to left field. (9-3, Jewell)
- B4: The fourth frame brought the Hawk bats as they scored six runs on five hits to tie the game at nine. (9-9)
- T5: Jewell responded with two runs as Chalabi roped his team-leading fifth triple of the season to left center scoring Pecota before crossing the plate on a sac fly by Redick. (11-9, Jewell)
- B6: The Hawks added a run on an RBI double in the sixth to pull within one. (11-10, Jewell)
- T7: Jewell got the run back on a RBI single up the middle by Chalabi, scoring Pautler who reached via the walk. (12-10, Jewell)
- B7: After Rockhurst loaded the bases, Van Pelt sent his third home run of the day over the right field wall for the walk off grand slam. (14-12, RU)

Winning Pitcher: Henry Weiler (1-3) earned his first win, going the final 2.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits.
