Tenth Inning Walk Off Gives Cardinals Sweep of Rockhurst

A day after suffering a walk off loss the William Jewell baseball team responded with a walk off win of their own, earning a sweep of Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon at Talley Stadium. With the sweep, the Cardinals move to 19-16 on the season and 8-8 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

GAME 1
Final: 5-2, Win

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: The Hawks got on the board first with a run in the opening frame, taking advantage of two singles and three walks. (1-0, RU)
  • B2: Trent Bollman and Robbie Colburn led off the second inning with a walk and double to put two in scoring position for Nick Gavin who drove a two RBI single to give Jewell their first lead. (2-1, Jewell)
  • B4: The Cardinals extended their lead in the fourth as Bollman led off the frame with a solo home run followed by RBI from Brendan Carney and Ben Pautler. (5-1, Jewell)
  • T7: The Hawks added a run on three hits to bring the score to the final of 5-2. 

PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Eric Smith (1-3) earned his first win of the season with a complete game effort, allowing eight hits while striking out six. 
Losing Pitcher: Jack Eisenbarger (2-4) took the loss, going six innings and giving five earned run.

Final: 4-3, Win (10 Innings)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B1: Jewell jumped on top early with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two RBI single off the bat of Colburn to score Chase Redick and Nate Pecota. (2-0, Jewell)
  • T3: The Hawks tied the game in the third with two runs on three hits. (2-2)
  • T6: Rockhurst took their first lead of the game with an RBI single by Garrett McNally. (3-2, RU)
  • B8: The Cardinals knotted the score at three in the eighth as Chase Averitt doubled and scored on a RBI fielder's choice by Bollman. (3-3)
  • B10: After stranding four runners over the previous two frames, the Cardinals came through in the tenth as back-to-back singles and a fly out put runners on the corners for Pecota who drove a single to center field scoring Luke Viestenz for the walk off win. (4-3, Jewell)

PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Joey Leondike (1-0) earned his first win, tossing the final three innings, not allowing a base runner, while striking out three. 
Losing Pitcher: PJ Seufert (2-4) suffered the loss giving up one earned run on three hits.
