Cardinals Drop Midweek Matchup with Missouri Western

The William Jewell baseball dropped a 5-4 non-conference decision to Missouri Western on Wednesday afternoon at Talley Stadium. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 19-17 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: Missouri Western started quickly scoring two runs on three hits and a Cardinal error to take an early lead. (2-0, MWSU)
  • B2: The Cardinals responded in the second inning as Trent Bollman reached on an error and the Cardinals took advantage with Robbie Colburn following with an RBI double to put Jewell on the board. Back-to-back infield singles tied the game before the second error of the inning by the Griffons allowed Austin Kline to score and put the Cards on top. (3-2, Jewell)
  • B3: Jewell extended the lead on an RBI triple off the bat of Kline, scoring Bollman who led off the frame with a double down the left field line. (4-2, Jewell)
  • T4: The Griffons got one run back in the fourth with three hits. (4-3, Jewell)
  • T5: Missouri Western tied the score at four, using a walk followed by back-to-back singles. (4-4)
  • T7: The Griffons got consecutive hits to lead off the seventh and put runners on the corners with no outs. A failed pick off attempt resulted in an error for the Cardinals and allowed the Missouri Western runner to score. (5-4, MWSU)

PITCHERS:
Win: Dustin Agnew (1-1) earned the win after going two innings and not allowing a baserunner. 
Loss: Thomas Hennelly (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing a run on two hits. 
Save: Kellan Richards (3) finished with the save, allowing just a single hit in one inning of work.

The Cardinals return to Great Lakes Valley Conference play over the weekend as they host Drury University at 12 p.m. Saturday's game will also feature the 50th Anniversary celebration of the 1968 NAIA National Championship team.
