Cardinals Down Kansas Wesleyan, 6-3

The William Jewell baseball took earned a non-conference win over Kansas Wesleyan, 6-3, on Tuesday afternoon at Talley Stadium. With the win, the Cardinals move to 22-19 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B2: The Cardinals jumped on top first with a run in the second inning as Tyler Carpenter grounded out with the bases loaded to score Trent Bollman. (1-0, Jewell)
  • T3: Kansas Wesleyan wasted no time tying the game, getting a run on two hits in the following frame. (1-1)
  • B3: Trent Bollman roped a big two-out, two-RBI double down the left field line to score Christian Chalabi and Chase Redick and put Jewell back on top. (3-1, Jewell)
  • B5: Jewell added a run in the fifth as Ben Pautler led off the inning with a double and scored on a Nate Pecota single. (4-1, Jewell)
  • B6: The Cards extended the lead to five as Tyler Murphy singled and scored on an error, followed by an RBI single from Redick to score Pautler. (6-1, Jewell)
  • T7: The Coyotes took advantage of a walk and a wild pitch to pick up a run in the seventh. (6-2, Jewell)
  • T8: Kansas Wesleyan pulled within three after an RBI single to left by Aaron Hurd in the eighth inning. (6-3, Jewell) 

PITCHERS
Win: Jacob Compton (1-0) earned his first win after tossing 3.1 innings and giving up just one earned run on two hits while striking out three. 
Loss: Brandon Johnson (0-2) took the loss for the Coyotes, allowing three earned on four hits. 
Save: Joey Leondike (1) picked up his first career save after striking two and throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
