The William Jewell baseball team suffered a sweep at the hands of Quincy University on Saturday afternoon by scores of 7-0 and 8-3. The Cardinals fall to 22-21 on the season and 10-12 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
GAME 1
Final: 7-0, Loss
HOW IT HAPPENED
- T1: Quincy got on the board early with a run on a sac fly to center in the first inning. (1-0, QU)
- T3: The Hawks added a run in the third on a triple from J.C. DeMuri to score Troy Wehde. (2-0, QU)
- T5: Back-to-back doubles to left field extended the Quincy lead to three after five frames. (3-0, QU)
- T6: A lead off home run made it a four-run game in the sixth inning. (4-0, QU)
- T7: DeMuri added another RBI with a double down the left field line to push the lead to five. (5-0, QU)
- T8: A two-RBI double to right center brought the score to the final of 8-0. (8-0, QU)
PITCHERS
Win: Riley Martin (3-2) earned the win, tossing eight innings and giving up just three hits while striking out seven.
Loss:
Brendan Beatty (5-4) took the loss, allowing five earned runs over 6.2 innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- T1: The Hawks again jumped on top early with a two-run home run by Cody Birdsong. (2-0, QU)
- B1: With runners on the corners, a stolen base by Chalabi allowed Pecota to score the first run of the day for Jewell, followed by a Chase Averitt triple to left scoring Chalabi. A balk allowed Averitt to cross the plate and give the Cardinals their first lead. (3-2, Jewell)
- T4: Quincy broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring five runs on five hits. (7-3, QU)
- T5: A sac fly down in foul territory allowed another Quincy runner to cross the plate and extend the lead to five. (8-3, QU)
PITCHERS
Win: Nick Stroud (6-3) earned the win, giving up three earned runs on four hits and four walks over 5.1 innings.
Loss:
Kylan Easley (2-4) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits.
