The William Jewell baseball team used late inning heroics to gain split a split with Quincy University, taking game one 3-2, before falling 9-8 in 10 innings in the nightcap. The Cardinals are now 23-22 overall and 11-13 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
GAME 1
Final: 3-2, Win
HOW IT HAPPENED
- B5: Nate Pecota roped a one-out hit through the left side and stole second before scoring on a single up the middle by Trent Bollman to put Jewell on top first. (1-0, Jewell)
- T6: The Hawks responded by tying the game with a two-out RBI double to left center. (1-1)
- T7: Back-to-back singles and a stolen base to lead off the seventh inning put Quincy on top late. (2-1, QU)
- B7: Much like the first run of the game, Pecota singled and stole second to put the tying run in scoring position. Christian Chalabi doubled down the left field line scored Pecota tying the game at one. Chase Redick stepped to the plate and sent a walk off double to left field to give Jewell the win. (3-2, Jewell)

Win:
Jace Burdette (3-1) pitched just one out but it was a big one, a ground out to strand the bases loaded in the seventh to earn his third win.
Loss: Cole Crawford (1-3) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- B1: The Cardinals again jumped on top first as Pecota singled and scored on a sac fly off the bat of Bollman. (1-0, Jewell)
- T2: The Hawks wasted no time in tying the game on an RBI single by Matt Hilmes (1-1)
- T3: A triple followed by an RBI single gave Quincy the lead after two innings. (2-1, QU)
- B5: Luke Viestenz and Nick Gavin reached base via a double and a walk to put two on for Brendan Carney who laid down the sacrifice bunt but reached second base on the first error of the game, allowing Viestenz to score. Pecota gave the Cards the lead with an RBI ground out scoring Gavin. Ball four of a walk to Redick got away and allowed Carney to cross the plate, followed by a double steal to plate Chalabi. Bollman recorded another RBI ground out to score Redick and give Jewell a four-run advantage. (6-2, Jewell)
- T7: Quincy tied the game once again in the seventh as RBI single coupled with an error, and a two-run home run knotted the score at six apiece. (6-6)
- B7: Jewell responded in the bottom of the frame, as Pecota was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a sac fly from Chalabi (7-6, Jewell)
- T9: Cody Birdsong hit his second two-run home run in as many at bats to put Quincy back on top by one in the ninth. (8-7, QU)
- B9: Down to their final out, the Cardinals got three consecutive singles from Pecota, Chalabi, and Redick to tie the game at eight and force extra innings. (8-8)
- T10: Quincy got a two-out sac fly in the tenth to retake the lead. (9-8, QU)

Win: Crawford (2-2) earned the win, going one inning and allowing one earned run on three hits.
Loss:
Kylan Easley (2-5) suffered the loss, despite allowing just a single hit and striking out two.
Save: Brandan Moriarty (1) received the save, tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
