Cards Win Pair at Missouri S&T

The William Jewell baseball team swept two games at Missouri S&T by identical scores of 9-2 on Saturday afternoon in Rolla, Mo. The Cardinals move to 16-12 on the season and 6-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

GAME 1
Final: 9-2, Win

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: Jewell grabbed an early lead as Nate Pecota singled to center and scored on a RBI groundout by Christian Chalabi. (1-0, Jewell)
  • T3: In the third it was Pecota who got the RBI, with a sacrifice fly to score Nick Gavin who led off the frame with a single. (2-0, Jewell)
  • T4: The Cardinals broke it open in the fourth with four runs on three hits and a Miner error. Three of the first four batters reached base with Gavin and Trent Bollman scoring on a double from Ben Pautler. Pecota got his second RBI of the day with a single to right center scoring two more runners. (6-0, Jewell)
  • T5: Jewell added a run in the fifth on a RBI groundout by Robbie Colburn to score Tyler Carpenter. (7-0, Jewell)
  • T7: The Cardinals continued to pile it on, adding two runs on four hits in the seventh inning. Four consecutive hits led off the inning, including doubles from Carpenter and Colburn, pushed the Jewell lead to nine runs. (9-0, Jewell) 
  • B8: The Miners got on the board with two runs on three hits in the eighth. (9-2, Jewell)

PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Brendan Beatty (5-1) continued his stellar senior season, going seven innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out a season best nine. 
Losing Pitcher: Trent Green (1-4) took the loss for the Miners, giving up five earned runs on eight hits and four walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B2: Missouri S&T grabbed the early lead in game two with a run in the second inning on three hits. (1-0, MST)
  • T3: The Cardinals rallied with four runs on five hits in the third inning as five of the first six batters in the inning got hits, including doubles off the bats of Pautler and Chase Redick. (4-1, Jewell)
  • T5: Jewell again plated four runs in the fifth inning on four hits. Redick led off the inning with a single through the left side and scored ona hit up the middle by Gavin. With the bases loaded Pautler drew a walk followed by a two RBI single by Pecota to make it a seven run advantage the bases. (8-1, Jewell)
  • T6: Bollman reached base on an error by the Miner second baseman and came around to score on a single by Colburn in the sixth to push the lead to eight. (9-1)
  • T7: The Miners got a solo home run from Justus Nelson in the seventh to bring the score to the final of 9-2. (9-2, Jewell)
     
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Kylan Easley (2-2) earned the win in his first start as a Cardinal, giving up just five hits and one earned run. 
Losing Pitcher: Anthony Garza (2-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing eight earned on 10 hits.
