Cardinals Swept at Missouri S&T

The William Jewell baseball team suffered a double header sweep at the hands of Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon in Rolla, Mo. by scores of 7-6 in eight innings and 2-0. The Cardinals fall to 16-14 overall and 6-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

Game 1
Final: 7-6, Loss (8 Inn.)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: Jewell jumped out to an early advantage with two runs in the first inning. Ben Pautler singled and was followed by walks to Nate Pecota and Christian Chalabi to load the bases for Chase Redick who plated the first run with a single. Tyler Carpenter grounded out to the right side to score Pecota and give the Cards a two-run lead. (2-0, Jewell)
  • T3: Three singles in the third, including an RBI knock off the bat of Nick Gavin, made the Cardinal advantage three runs. (3-0, Jewell)
  • B4: The Miners got on the board with a single run in the fourth inning on three hits. (3-1, Jewell)
  • T5: The Cards added two more runs in the fifth on an RBI double from Pautler and a Miner error. (5-1, Jewell)
  • B5: Missouri S&T pulled within two, scoring two runs on four hits and a Jewell miscue in the bottom of the fifth frame. (5-3, Jewell)
  • T6: Jewell got a run back as back-to-back singles by Redick and Carpenter made it a three-run game. (6-3, Jewell)
  • B6: The Miners took advantage of a walk and hit-by-pitch to score twice on one hit in the bottom of the sixth. (6-5, Jewell)
  • B7: Missouri S&T tied the game in the seventh on a double from Connor Forsythe. (6-6)
  • B8: A single through the right side with two runners on gave the Miners the walk off win. (7-6, MST) 
PITCHERS
Winning Pitcher: Luke Marcheshi (2-0) earned the win, throwing the final 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. 
Losing Pitcher: Reed Pegram (2-2) was tagged with the loss, giving up two earned runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of work.

  • B1: Missouri S&T jumped on top early scoring a run on a wild pitch in the opening frame. (1-0, MST)
  • B5: The Miners added an unearned run in the fifth inning on a single by Matt Gruse. (2-0, MST)

PITCHERS 
Winning Pitcher: Dan Borek (4-4) worked a one-hit complete game shutout, striking out four to earn the win. 
Losing Pitcher: Mack Stephenson (2-2) suffered the loss, giving up one earned run.
