The William Jewell volleyball team battled one of the top teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference but fell 3-0 to Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals fall to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in GLVC play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Set One: The Cardinals jumped out on top early with a 12-8 lead behind two kills from Maddie Wingert to force a UIS timeout. Leading 23-20, Jewell committed four consecutive errors to push the Stars back in front 24-23.  A kill from Paityn Hardison stopped the run but a kill by UIS and a Cardinal error gave the Stars the opening set 26-24. 
• Set Two: Set two was a back-and-forth affair in the early going until UIS went on an 8-2 run to take a 20-13 advantage. Jewell got kills from five different players and outscored the Stars 6-5 over the remainder of the set but fell 25-19. 
• Set Three: The Prairie Stars used another mid-set run in the finale to open a 23-12 lead. A Jenna Rau kill and UIS error pulled the Cards within ten but the Stars won the final point and the set 25-14. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Cardinals posted more kills than UIS at 44 to 41 but hit just .116 on the afternoon, compared to .261 by the Stars. 
• A matchup of two of the top blocking teams in the GLVC, the Stars won the battle 8-5.
