The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon in Rolla, Missouri, 16-25, 27-25, 23-25, 21-25. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 2-8 on the season and 0-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET ONE: A 12-3 run by Missouri S&T put the Miners on top 15-6 early in the opening set. The Cardinals and Miners played even the rest of the way but the early decifit was too much as Jewell fell 25-16.
- SET TWO: The Cardinals fell behind by as many as seven in set two before mounting a comeback. Kills from Paityn Hardison and Maddie Wingert, combined with four kills by Missouri S&T helped tie the game, 18-18. The Miners responded by taking a 25-24 lead but committed three consecutive errors to give Jewell the set 27-25.
- SET THREE: The Cards again fell behind early before responding to take a 18-17 lead late. The Miners scored eight of the final 13 points to take the set 25-23.
- SET FOUR: Jewell jumped out to an early lead in the finale but faltered late. Holding a 15-10 lead, the Cardinals could not slow down the Miners who scored 15 of the final 21 points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals hit .141 with the 47 kills on the afternoon while the Miners posted a .224 attack percentage with 62 kills.
- Jewell had four blocks compared to six by Missouri S&T.
