Cardinals Force Three Turnovers but Fall to Truman

The William Jewell football team managed to grab two picks and a fumble recovery on Saturday but ultimately dropped a 42-27 decision to Truman State. The Cardinals fall to 1-7 on the year and 0-6 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

How it Happened
  • Truman struck first for 14 points in the opening quarter on a one yard run from Jordan Salima, followed by a four yard pass to Jake Ellis. 
  • The Cardinals cut the deficit in half just before the end of the first frame as Will Schneider found Jalik Jaggwe for a 21-yard score. 
  • The Bulldogs tacked on 21 points during the duration of the second quarter. 
  • Just before the half, Schneider connected with Nick Fisher for 32 yards to the back of the end zone to pull Jewell within 21. 
  • After the break, Salima scored his third touchdown of the day to push the Truman lead to 42-14. 
  • A 10-play, 60 yard drive resulted in a Brad Dee touchdown from one yard out. 
  • Salima score again on a five yard rush to start the fourth quarter. 
  • Schneider and Jaggwe hooked up for their fifth touchdown of the season and second of the day to bring the score to the final. 

For the Cardinals
  • Schneider finished the day with 255 passing yard and three touchdowns on 18-of-31 completed passes. 
  • Jaggwe posted his third 100-plus yard receiving game of the season with 114 and two scores. Fisher added 66 yards on three catches. 
  • Brock Geisz and Cameron McKasson led the defense with 10 tackles each. Gianni D'Arienzo picked up and interception and a forced fumble. 

For the Bulldogs
  • Salima finished with 102 yards on 17 carries and four touchdowns to lead Truman. 
  • Quarterback Jaden Barr collected 216 yards on 19-of-27 completions. 
  • Sam Reeves had seven tackles including 2.5 sacks to lead the defense.

The Cardinals hit the road next week as they travel to Grand Valley State University for a 4 p.m. EST match up.
