The William Jewell volleyball team has now won four of the past five games after downing Maryville University 3-0 on Friday night in the Mabee Center. The Cardinals, who won by scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-7, move to 10-13 on the season and 4-4 in league action.
How it Happened
- Jewell got off to a bit of a bumpy start, falling behind 17-9 before mounting a furious rally. The Cardinals went on a 13-3 run behind two blocks from Lacey Albers to take the lead, 22-20. The Saints pulled within one but an error coupled with an Elizabeth Quinn kill ended the set.
- Set two was a back-and-forth battle with neither team able to pull ahead by more than two points until late. A kill by Maddie Wingert and two Maryville errors gave the Cards the 25-23 win.
- Set three was all Jewell as the Cardinals used four kills from Grace Baucom to jump out to a 14-5 lead. The Saints managed only two more points as Jewell cruised to the 25-7 win.
For the Cardinals
- Jewell was well-balanced offensively as Quinn and Wingert led the way with eight kills. Quinn added five blocks.
- Lauren Castaneda collected a game-high 17 assist.
- Freshman Haidan Baade posted a season-best nine digs to lead the defense.
For the Saints
- Allison Lakin finished with a match-high nine kills.
- Cassidy Arndt had eight kills and nine digs.
