Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cardinals Rebound to Down Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech entered the week receiving votes in the national polls and through the first quarter looked as though they would break away for a win but the William Jewell women's basketball team had other plans as they rallied from down 14 to win 75-71 and move to 1-1 on the season.

How it Happened
  • After a bucket from Claire Burch brought the Cardinals within one late in the first quarter, Michigan Tech went on a 14-2 run to break open a 25-11 lead. The Cardinals rallied, closing the half on a 21-15 run of their own, capped by four three pointers from Sydney Offield and Lea Finn to trail by just three at the half, 35-32.
  • The Huskies appeared to break away in the third quarter, outscoring Jewell 24-17 to lead by 10 after three frames. The Cardinals came out on fire in the final 10 minutes however, outscoring Michigan Tech 26-12. Kiara Bradley collected eight points in the final quarter with Ainsley Tolson and Rhyann Fisher connecting on 5-of-6 free throws over the last 90 seconds to secure the win.

For the Cardinals
  • Bradley finished with a game-high 15 points while Offield and Wilbers added 13 a piece.
  • The Cardinals owned the glass, outrebounding the Huskies 42-27, led by 11 boards from freshman Rachel Schon.
  • Classmate Tolson came up big down the stretch with eight points, three assists and two steals.

For the Huskies
  • Baillie McGirk tied Bradley with 15 points while Abbie Botz finished with 13 points and seven boards. Ellie Mackay had 10 to put three Huskies in double figures.
