The William Jewell men's basketball team traveled to Maryville, Mo. on Thursday night for a match up with No. 1 ranked Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats came out on top by a final of 102-59 to drop Jewell to 3-2 on the season.
How it Happened
- The Bearcats started hot, hitting four of their first five shots on their way to opening a 22-6 lead eight minutes into the game. Jewell gained some momentum, outscoring the Bearcats 9-7 over the next six minutes but Northwest Missouri closed the half on a 16-8 run to hold a 45-23 advantage at the break.
- The Cardinals came out of the intermission and immediately cut the deficit to 19 after a traditional three-point play by Mason Alexander but Northwest Missouri responded with 30-15 run to growing their lead to 34 midway through the second half. The Bearcats hit 10 three pointers over the final 10 minutes to push the lead to the final of 102-59.
For the Cardinals
- Eysan Wiley led the Cardinals with 16 points, six rebounds and three blocks while Nick Bradley added 12 points and three steals.
- Jevaughn Ferguson came off the bench to score eight points and block one shot in just seven minutes.
- After committing 11 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, the Cardinals turned the ball over just four times in the second half.
For the Bearcats
- Trevor Hudgins paced Northwest Missouri with 21 points and 11 assists. Diego Bernard also had 21 to go along with 11 rebounds.
- The Bearcats shot a season-best 59 percent from the floor, including going 15-of-29 from three point land.
- Northwest Missouri entered the game averaging nearly 10 offensive rebounds per night but were held to just three by the Cardinals.
