The William Jewell women's basketball team trailed by as many as 24 before mounting a second half rally but the Cardinals came up short, falling by a final of 69-59 to Central Missouri on Tuesday afternoon. The loss drops Jewell to 3-3 on the season.
How it Happened
- The Cardinals struck first with a basket by Rachel Schon but would score just four more through the opening quarter as UCM held a 14-6 lead after one.
- A three from Sydney Offield early in the second quarter pulled the Cardinals within seven but the Jennies closed the half on a 5-2 run to hold a 33-19 advantage at the half.
- UCM opened the third quarter with a 13-3 run to open a game-high 24-point lead before the Cardinals rallied, sparked by a three from Lea Finn. Jewell hit four total three pointers over the final 4:40 of the period to pull back within 13.
- Kiara Bradley scored eight straight points to pull Jewell within seven with just under six and half minutes to play but the Cardinals could get no closer.
For the Cardinals
- Bradley led Jewell with 19 points and seven rebounds.
- Rhyann Fisher posted a team-high four assists while Offield finished with four steals.
- The Jewell bench outscored UCM 21-9.
For the Jennies
- UCM finished with three players in double figures led by Morgan Fleming's 23 to go along with five assists.
- Nija Collier collected six rebounds.
- The Jennies shot 45.8% from the field.
